FOLK ENSEMBLE "RADZIMICHY"

The creative biography of folk ensemble "Radzimichy" began in the year 1979. The name of the group traces back to the ancient tribe radzimichy, who inhabited the northern regions of Belarus.

Vladimir Lipski is the founder and the constant leader of the choir.

The folk ensemble "Radzimichy" comprises 30 people, talented youth from 17 to 30 years old. The artists sing, dance, play various traditional and untraditional folk instruments such as bayan, concertina, dulcimer, violin, flute, fife, pipe, horn, zhaleika, solomka, balalaika, domra, keyboard instruments, xylophone, drums, tambourine, etc. The integral part of the choir is the chorus of children from 7 to 12 years old.

In 1985 the group was conferred the honorary title "national".

The folk ensemble "Radzimichy" is the laureate and prize-winner in a number of national and international contests and festivals. The repertoire of the choir consists not only of Belarusian songs and music, but also of folk, classic, and popular works of different countries. The program of the choir's performances is always interesting, vivid and original. The ensemble "Radzimichy" doesn't stick to firm ethnographic consistency. Its interpretation of folklore is always impregnated with a sense of modernity, connection between ages and generations. The choir aspires to create its own style of presentation of folk songs. However, the artists keep cautiously the main quality of tradition - the essence of Belorussian song, its spiritual purity, depth and openness. The mobile and fruitful work of the choir signifies innovative search: traditional sources of folk culture merge with the performance specification of pop genres. But for all that, there is the preservation of artistic unity and national originality and the strengthening of fascinating spontaneity and modern spirit. In the concert program of the choir you can hear both lyrical and frolicsome folk songs, which reveal the essence of Belorussian mentality. The works, performed with various musical instruments, impress by their contrast and extraordinary coloring.

The ensemble "Radzimichy" gives a lot of performances. You can hardly find any place in Belarus where frank and lyrical songs of the group are unknown. "Radzimichy" is widely covered in national and foreign periodicals and a number of programs about the group are broadcast and televised… The ensemble performs on tour both in Belarus and abroad. The concerts of the group were met with great success in Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Georgia, the Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Czech, Bulgaria, Canada, and Italy. In the period from 2000 till 2004 the ensemble "Radzimichy" visited South Korea six times, where they became the laureate of international festivals three times and the prize-winner of international contests of players on national musical instruments two times. The ensemble keeps all awards and prizes in its museum as a sign of achievement in culture.

In 2006 the choir was invited to Japan by concert association "MIN-ON". It performed at the best concert halls in 16 Japanese cities.

The regulations of the ensemble "Radzimichy" read as follows:

  • "Radzimichy" is the group of like-minded artists united by the common idea: to give people culture and art in the highest sense of these notions.
  • In the country and abroad, the artists of the ensemble should present Belarusian national culture professionally, with dignity and with pride for the incumbent mission.
  • The title "the artist of the folk ensemble "Radzimichy" obliges its members to look always irreproachably both on the scene and at home.
  • The obligatory rule for all members of the ensemble is the benevolent, warm and friendly relationship between the artists as well as the respectful and affable attitude towards people, who work with the choir.

The mentioned above is the main condition of the belonging to the choir where everybody is treated as an equal member of the big and friendly family "Radzimichy", the core of which is the Lipski's family ensemble.
